Look and see

One of my favorite things about photographing my family is that we are in our home or yard a lot.  This means that I photograph in the same space over and over and over.  It’s helped me realize how many different photographs can be taken in an “ordinary” space.

Sometimes I find a really interesting background or maybe its all about the light.  The light in our house throughout a day changes so much.  There are so many spots of beautiful light.  It took me a while but I eventually learned to see it.  I can’t tell you how many times I see something and yell for the girls to come for a picture.  Or I see them playing, minding their business, and out of now where…CLICK!  I can’t help it.

Take this image below.  It’s very simple but works.  We were goofing around and I saw Bella framed in the fireplace.  It’s strange, perhaps, but I got so excited!

The next time you’re hanging in your house, try to see your surroundings.  What’s that saying about looking but not seeing?  Well it applies here.  We get so used to our surroundings that we stop seeing them.  I guarnatee you’ll find an intersting space or beautiful light.  And you don’t have to be a photographer or make a photograph to appreciate it.

This also applies to your life.  Are you comfortable and used to going about your routine day in and day out that?  Maybe if you see your life you may want to change something.

How did I get on this topic again?  I should stop before this becomes an entry on self help or something.
