When Melissa and I knew we were going to be having a baby, we were so excited. When we found out we were having twins, we were crazy excited. Being photographers we wanted to document our daughters. We wanted to do something that was simple and honest. Something that might be a bit different than what you’d typically think. That’s when we came up with The AB Project.
First of all, the name. Our daughters are named Ava & Bella so it was fitting to go with AB. Just like M2 (Michael & Melissa), it’s very creative and complex, haha.
The idea is simple; take a picture of them every day. This isn’t one of those strings of portraits that you watch on youtube where you watch a person creepily grow through time lapse. Our idea is so simple. Just make a real photograph. Some images are of them crying, some laughing. Heck, we’ve even photographed them at 11:58pm because we forgot to take a picture during the day and they are both sprawled out in their beds sleeping. We are not the only ones who can make a photograph either. It’s a family project, so many times others in our family will take pictures and help contribute to the project.
Some of the images taken, are beautifully done with perfect light, while some are horrible and underexposed. It doesn’t matter. It represents them in that day. Just like life, it is unpredictable.
So how long are we going to keep this going? Our goal is to reach their 18th birthday. At that time, it’ll be up to Ava and Bella if they want to continue or not. Hopefully they do, but who knows. Either way, we plan to have a show to share the pictures.
At the end of the day, photography is a part of our lives. Whether we’re photographing for someone else or ourselves. We believe in the power of the photograph and hope you do too.
We want to share with you our project as we’re in the thick of it. Once a week we will share one photograph here.
