Blog: Family

A little dose of Comly lifestyle

This little family is sure to melt your heart.   I feel like this week is the perfect time to blog about our shoot with the Comly’s.  After the events that happened last week and going through these images, I cannot be more grateful for what we do.  We’ve been documenting the Comly’s for the last few years and it’s been such a joy to see them grow (physically and in numbers).   What started out as a family of 3 is now a family of 4.  You may remember Audrey, she’s hard to forget.  You may remember her from our baby fever post and then again a year later. Whenever I see her, she fill our hearts with joy.   Audrey is now a big sister to Helen.  Helen looks much like Audrey.   She never cried and all she did was smile.

This is why we love lifestyle photography so much.  Sure, I still respect the traditional style shots of families, and for some that will always be their style.  However, that is not our style.  Our style is organic and it’s fresh.  It’s what’s happening in your every day life.  Time goes by so quickly and it’s easy to forget how things were.  Lifestyle photography is meant to help you remember those moments and emotions.  We’ve been documenting our girls since they were born and now, they are 5.  Some days I can’t remember what it was like when they were 6 months old.  All I need to do is look at the pictures from that age and I remember not only how they looked, but I remember what I was feeling at that exact time in my life.  That is the power of photography.  Something I will forever cherish.

As Audrey and Helen get older, the phases will change, and we hope that with our photos,  Mom and Dad can remember their babies as they were and remember how they were as a family in this particular moment in time.  That is our goal.

Enjoy!

The Dietrich family visits Philadelphia

We had the wonderful opportunity of spending a little time with this adorable little family.   I first met Christine and Jason 5 or so years ago, while we were all living in Philadelphia.  Since then, we all got married, had some kids, Michael and I moved to the burbs and they moved to San Francisco (right around the corner, haha).     However, we’re still friends on facebook (of course) and I’m excited we got to meet Jakob in person.   He’s a handsome little man and I can see how much joy he brings to their lives.  It’s amazing what an impact a baby can have on someones heart :)

Jason & Christine, thanks for thinking of us during your visit!  We’ll be sure to venture to the west coast again soon :)

Seriously, how cute are they together?

haha.  What a little stud muffin!

The Monks really have nothing to do with this shoot, but we found them interesting as with everything else you may encounter in Philadelphia ;0)

Geesey’s Water Balloon Battle!

Woooo!  It’s Friday!

A few blog posts are coming your way today.  In addition to the new AB project post, is the Geesey’s family shoot.

The last time we photographed this family was 2-3 years ago.  The boys have grown, in fact the oldest boy Gavin, now has a girlfriend.   The youngest boy Jack Jack and our girls were born just a couple days apart.

With family portraits, we really take a non-traditional approach and like to capture family in a more natural way.  More or less, we want to capture their personalities rather than a few posed set ups and call it quits.  We like to take it a step further.  We want them to look back at these photos years from now and remember exactly how they were.  I think for most parents, this is something important.  As our girls are growing (fast), I look back on photos and videos we’ve taken of them over the last 5 years.   I can remember that time of our lives through those captured memories.

This fun family is up for just about anything, which I love.  I must thank them for dealing with the heat.  Young kids and heat usually do not get a long very well during photo shoots.   However, these boys did great :)

Have a great weekend!

Michael had to show these boys (and mom) how to jump!  Who said white men can’t jump?  They can….they just need a little push!

\

He studied and followed through!

Seriously?!  How cute is this family?!

It was hot and sticky, but we still made them do their head shots!  It can really showcase someones personality.  As you see below…they all have different personalities.  All of them did well, except dad, and well, you can see what happened to him…

The most fun part of the day was the water balloon fight.  Like I said, it was HOT outside and I couldn’t think of a more fun way to cool down.  Well a pool or a water park would have been nice, but there weren’t any of those around!

On your mark…get set…

GO!

Mom…she’s ruthless!   She’ll getch ya!

Payback!

Dad was like a ninja…

The boys fighting over the last balloon…

…which popped.
